What APHL Does

Building Connection to Support the Laboratory System

Partnerships are essential to advancing public health. Through partnerships, we aim to promote and support the recruitment and retention efforts for the public health laboratory workforce.

Academic Partnerships is part of the Career Pathways in Public Health Laboratory Science: An APHL-CDC Initiative. The primary goal of the Career Pathways initiative is to increase the public health laboratory workforce through hands-on programs for students, support for early-career and experienced professionals and opportunities for networking and leadership development.

Working With Us

Our Partners

APHL collaborates with educational institutions, professional associations and other organizations to promote careers in public health laboratory science—such as fellowships, internships and educational outreach.

By partnering with APHL, your organization can help advance public health laboratory science and practice by engaging in initiatives such as research, education, workforce development and more. We are eager to learn about your institution and explore potential areas for collaboration. Your insights will be invaluable as we work to identify and develop impactful partnerships that drive progress in public health laboratory science.

The National Consortium for Health Science Education, a non-profit education organization, represents state education agency leaders responsible for middle school, secondary and postsecondary career technical education (CTE) health science programs. NCHSE supports visionary leadership, promotes best practices and speaks with one voice to promote career success for the next generation of health professionals.

The ASCP Board of Certification (BOC) is patient-centric and elevates peer laboratory professionals through rigorous examinations, tailored to today's laboratory medicine and pathology practice models. ASCP BOC's core mission is to uphold the highest standards of certification for laboratory professionals, benefiting patients worldwide. Since its establishment in 1928, the ASCP BOC has successfully credentialed over 625,000 laboratory professionals. ASCP BOC is the pre-eminent credentialing agency for laboratory professionals in the US and the only body accredited by the ANSI National Accreditation Board, based on ISO17024 standards.

HOSA - Future Health Professionals is a global student-led organization dedicated to developing leadership skills and recognition for students pursuing careers in health professions. Established in 1976, HOSA is recognized by the US Department of Education and has over 260,000 members worldwide across various educational levels, including secondary and postsecondary institutions. HOSA provides unique programs that motivate and prepare students for success in the health science career cluster.

The Lab Drawer aims to bridge the gap between STEM education and the visual, literary and performing arts, providing a cross-functional learning experience. Founders Alecia Gabriel, PhD, and Deirdre Roberson, MS, started The Lab Drawer to deliver quality, culturally relevant STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) experiences to youth across the globe.

The National Board of Public Health Examiners (NBPHE) was established in September 2005 as an independent organization, the purpose of which is to ensure that students and graduates from schools and programs of public health accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) have mastered the knowledge and skills relevant to contemporary public health. This purpose will be accomplished by administering a voluntary certification exam and maintenance of certification program.
