Our Federal Partners

CDC Newborn Screening Quality Assurance Program

APHL partners with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to ensure the quality and accuracy of newborn screening test results at public health laboratories through emergency coordination, policy guidance and improved data exchange. The CDC’s Newborn Screening Quality Assurance Program (NSQAP), operated by the Newborn Screening Molecular Biology Branch, is a voluntary, non-regulatory initiative serving over 670 laboratories worldwide. NSQAP provides dried blood spot reference materials, distributes coded specimens to assess lab proficiency, and works with labs to correct errors and improve practices. Quarterly reports help laboratories benchmark their performance against peers.
