What is a public health laboratory?
When we say “public health laboratory” we mean local, state, federal and territorial government laboratories focused on protecting the public’s health. That includes laboratories performing human, environmental, animal and food testing to monitor and detect health threats.

What is the difference between a Member Laboratory Representative and a Member-Associate?
Member Laboratory Representatives are the primary contact and voting member for the laboratory’s organizational membership.
Member-Associates are those laboratory employees that have been appointed by the Member Laboratory Representative to receive APHL member benefits. Each organization receives a limited number of Member-Associate positions based on the population size that the laboratory serves. Additional Member-Associate positions can be purchased and the Member Laboratory Representative can reassign these positions at their discretion throughout the year.
If I’m employed by an APHL member laboratory, but I am not an appointed Member Laboratory Representative or Member-Associate, do I still receive member benefits?
APHL member benefits are available to the Member Laboratory Representative and appointed Member-Associates, however employees of member laboratories are eligible to receive APHL’s weekly e-newsletter, eUpdate, in addition to being eligible to apply for travel support to APHL’s Annual Conference.

When does APHL’s membership year start?
APHL operates on a July 1 – June 30 membership year.
How do I renew my membership?
APHL begins distributing membership renewal invoices in early April. Member Representatives and Billing Contacts can access their organization’s renewal invoice through your member portal.
How much of APHL membership dues are used for lobbying purposes?
APHL does not use membership dues for lobbying purposes.
How do I access and update my member account?
Access the Member Portal to update account information such contact information, position title, account password, etc.
Can I use the same account if I start working at a different member laboratory or become an individual member?
Yes, we would prefer that you use the same account. Please login to your account and update your email, position information and other relevant user settings. If you don’t know your password and can no longer access the email address tied to your account, contact [email protected].
