5th Annual QIAGEN-sponsored Microbe Masterpieces & Chemistry Creations Art Contest

Get out those art supplies because it’s almost time to unleash your creativity!

This Public Health Laboratory Appreciation Month in September, you can enter the 5th Annual QIAGEN-sponsored Microbe Masterpieces & Chemistry Creations Art Contest! Create artwork that reflects your public health laboratory work: a microbe, microbial colony, biochemical analyte, chemical agent, anything! Sketch, paint, sculpt, bake, knit or use any technique you like. Check out last year’s entries for some inspiration.

From September 1 through midnight (UTC) on September 30, send a photo or digital copy of your entry along with your name, laboratory name and preferred shipping address to [email protected] for consideration. Any US resident who works for a local, state, federal or territorial public health laboratory is eligible to enter (including environmental, agricultural and food safety labs)! All participants in the Public Health Laboratory Fellowship and Internship Programs: an APHL-CDC Initiative are also eligible to enter. (Read the complete terms and conditions.)

This year we have some NEW categories! Winners will be chosen in these categories:

  • Grand Prize: Best overall.
  • Most Unique: Use your art to tell a story, illustrate the future of public health laboratory science, use an unexpected medium or surprise the judges in ways they could never expect! Make sure to share more about your story in your submission email.
  • Best Use of Recycled Materials: Use recycled materials to create your artwork. Be sure to share how you used these materials in your submission email.
  • Best Scientific Representation: This category will highlight the most accurate depiction of a public health scientific concept.

The grand prize winner will receive a QIAGEN-sponsored lunch for the winner’s direct lab department or section, QIAGEN branded giveaways and a collage of all submitted artwork. Other category winners will receive either a QIAGEN Gut Check board game, T-shirt or similar item. All entries will receive a small gift. Any entries not including requested information such as shipping address will be considered an indication that participant is opting out of this prize.

Winners will be announced at the QIAGEN Public Health Virtual Symposium in October 14 from 1:00-3:30pm EDT. Register now! This is an engaging event bringing together leading voices from public health laboratories across the country. In addition to announcing the winners of the art contest, this year’s symposium will spotlight four expert speakers sharing innovative collaborations and workflows, including:
